So vampire books have been null for a while now. Who cares about Edward and his creepy obsession with a teenage girl? Enter Holly Black. The creator of the Coldtown series has produced a dystopian-like fantasy universe that reveals more than the diseased species that is the vampire race. Holly Black unveils a tale of mirred survival, fight and flight tortured by the promise of love and family.
Why do you want to go into the Coldtown?
After a party- massacre where her ex boyfriend gets infected by a vampire, seventeen year old Tana’s life is turned upside down. Trying to save her ex’s life, her own, and that of a super old vampire on the run, Tana takes shelter in one of the country’s most notorious Coldtowns.
Coldtowns are barricaded cities where vampires/wanna-be vampires/soon-to-be vampires are contained away from the rest of the population.
But despite the trumped up image the media bestows upon Coldtowns- the glamorous parties, gorgeous men and women- Tana and her friends soon learn that there lives will be nothing but a fight for survival.
Holly Black’s Coldtown series is a fresh face in the vampires genre. An interesting read from the fantasy section.
