Anybody Out There? by Marian Keyes

Our rating: 4.4 stars

A book assured to take you through an achingly beautiful emotional rollercoaster, Marian Keyes pens a tale of family, love and grief.

“Feathery Stokers – There is no definitive list but here are some examples…Men who noticed your shoes and handbags were Feathery Strokers. (Or Jolly Boys.) Men who said pornography was exploitation of women were Feathery Strokers. (Or liars.)…Men who stayed friends with their ex-girlfriends were Feathery Strokers. Especially if they called them their “ex-partner.”  Men who said, “I have to take care of myself right now” were screaming Feathery Strokers. (Even I’d go along with that.)

Anybody out There? revolves around career girl Anna Walsh as she finds herself catapulted back to her parents’ home after a brutal accident leaves her wheelchair bound and mildly amnesiac. But despite her injuries Anna is determined to go back to New York, find her fiance, Aiden, and resume her life as before. Even as her family objects. Even as her bruised body objects. Even as her memory flails.

Anna needs to find Aiden. If only he’d call.

Heartbreakingly hilarious, Anna’s life is as reletable as any book about millenials can be. From the several phases she goes through in an effort to find her place in the world, to unemployment, depression, and finally her pitfall-filled search for love. Marian Keyes takes you on a journey of truth, laughter and ultimately love.
